Klaus Graf of Archivalia, a well known and a highly active German archives blogger, wrote yesterday a piece on using Mediawiki and Semantic Mediawiki as an archives management system. Since I wrote my two articles a few years ago, the first on participatory archives published in Archival Science and the second one on Semantic Mediawiki as a records management system (in Swedish, with an English abstract and the article should somehow Google translatable) in the Finnish journal of information science, Informaatiotutkimus, I have been continuing with developing wikibased archives and records management (for instance in archaeological domain), but have not heard of too many other examples. It is nice to note that I am not alone. It is clear that the present Mediawiki + Semantic Mediawiki platform is not entirely ideal for archives management, but wikis an a slightly broader approach is certainly promising in solving some fundamental issues.Â
